Layla | watercolor and ink | 9"x12"

The story of Layla and Majnun is well known throughout the middle east. A love story much like Romeo and Juliet, it recounts the passion of a young man and women forbidden to be together by tribal and societal politics andprejudices. The story takes on spiritual significance for the ecstatic Sufis who identify the lovers' passion as a metaphor for the yearning for the divine.
